The Iraqi Dinar Revaluation in 2012

The Iraqi Dinar is currently trading at around 1175.5 (bid) Dinars to one US dollar. The currency is managed and pegged to the US dollar at this amount. The Iraqi government occasionally makes adjustments to the rate, but they do not make those adjustments very often.

The Iraqi Dinar, prior to the US invasion, was near on par with the US dollar. Actually, some figures show that the Iraqi Dinar was 3 to 1 to the dollar, but that was apparently a subjective figure determined by Saddam and his party, so it is hard to pin down its true value. The Iraqi Dinar Value Chart to the right only goes back five years. In that time period, however, the Iraqi Dinar has accumulated value against the dollar.

The turmoil that ensued during and after the Gulf wars decimated the currency, and now it takes over 250,000 Dinar to buy a cheap refrigerator in Iraq. It takes over a thousand Dinar to buy a loaf of bread. The sanctions, unstable government, reparations, destruction of oil wells, the lack of external (much less internal) investment all contributed to the Dinar's demise.

Recently, however, Iraq is becoming more and more viable every day. Sanctions are being lifted, Iraq’s Parliament officially approved a second term for Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki and his partial cabinet lineup, and Iraq recently enjoyed International participation in developing and redeveloping its oil wells and oil discovery projects.

As a side note, the United States did not garner very many contracts in this regard. Our oil and gas companies decided that the terms of the contracts were too restrictive and unprofitable. Those contracts are good for Iraq's economy, AND will not become a detriment to our own domestic oil and gas companies.

There were indeed security concerns in the past, and they still exist, but on a much smaller scale.

"There is a big misconception regarding security, yes there are problems but it is nothing compared to the past. In the past we had a huge security issue but now things have changed. I would say now there is a reduced security problem. We have a strong security force and incidents have all but finished. Corruption is another issue which media has not rightly covered. In the past, the government was weak, but now the government is strong, with transparency and accountability paramount, especially given the international coverage even the smallest issue on corruption is given." (Source:prnewswire.com/news-releases/iraq-development-advances-despite-concerns-102886039.html)

Iraq has been stated to have oil reserves that compete, or surpass (speculative), the largest oil reserve countries in the world, including Saudi Arabia, Canada, Iran, Venezuala, Russia, etc.

Iraqi Dinar Investment - How Can I Invest In Iraqi Dinars?

The IQD (New Iraqi Dinar) is not yet traded on the open foreign currency exchange market. That being said:

"Under the Order of the Coalition Provisional Government Order 39, a US citizen has the same rights to investments as an Iraqi citizen."

However, you'll probably have to go to a foreign exchange currency dealer to buy Iraqi Dinar. Furthermore, despite the claims that these sites typically make, they will probably not buy your Dinar back from you. If they do buy it back, they will probably buy it back at a deep discount.

If you find a specific bank that buys and sells New Iraqi Dinar, please leave a comment below with the Bank's phone number and/or address for others to read. Buying New Iraqi Dinar at a respectable bank avoids the 30% or more markup currency dealers charge, and it may be safer, not knowing to whom you are sending your cash. It is convenient, however, to buy New Iraqi Dinar from currency dealers, as some of them are able to allow the use of a credit card for purchase. If they allow credit cards, then the site is presumably one of the safer dealers.

Please do not succumb to the hype! Logical minds doubt there will be a revaluation to the US dollar on any scale other than a normal (slow) increase at which their currency recovers. This does not seem like a get rich quick phenomenon. The author does, strongly believe that the Iraqi Dinar will increase in value against the US dollar. However, the author does not believe it is going to happen overnight, and the author doubts it will make any of us instant millionaires.

The current speculation is that the currency will revalue in the beginning of 2012. However, the author would advise you to do your due deligence in researching this currency. It has been mentioned on Glen Beck's, Jim Cramer's, and CNBC's newscasts. The newscast done by CNBC is the most credible, whereas the other two individuals have huge credibility issues.

If you have some disposable income that you would ordinarily throw out the window of your vehicle while driving down the Interstate, buying New Iraqi Dinar would be a better use of your unneeded money. If you buy the IQD (New Iraqi Dinar), please note that you may not be able to sell it back, and you may lose your entire investment.

However, if you speculate that the United States will go through a period of hyper-inflation, this may be a good way to inflation proof your capital assets while the US economy (hopefully) stabilizes. If the value of the dollar drops (like most of the great economic minds are alluding to), the Iraqi Dinar is most likely going to gain in value (against the inflated dollar), as well as many other foreign currencies. Having a few gold coins, silver ingots, Euro, Yen, Yuan, Dong, and Dinar around will somewhat protect you, or cushion the blow, from any pending US dollar currency collapse.

In any investment, there is a risk you may lose your ENTIRE investment. However, you can adorn your walls with this currency, as it is very colorful. You can also have your children bring these currencies to class with them for show-and-tell, and share with them the rich history of Iraq and the various countries' currencies with which you invest.

Please leave a comment, and let us know your experiences with, and your knowledge of, the New Iraqi Dinar.

We Want Your Opinion!

Do you think the New Iraqi Dinar will revalue?

  • Yes, at a 1:1 or higher rate within a year
  • Yes, at a 1:1 or higher rate within five years
  • Yes, but at a slow, deliberate, normal rate once the country stabilizes
  • No, it will never happen, especially because the region is a powderkeg

Facebook produces an intangible nothing yet it is capitalized at $100b US.

Iraq possesses and produces a tangible but finite global energy source and is valued at what?

Hmmm…I think I know where the scam is.

@sterling I assume she is jims mistress:) j/k I looked her up and several sites with the same article popped up but no info on who that woman is

Tim 37 hours ago

I tried googling her name. The only thing that came up was "Age of Revolution" topics. She lived 1761-1827. There was another that had a PhD in public health. And a few other misc women with the same name. I would say she is a fictitious person. But, that's the skeptic coming out in me! GO DINAR!

Anyone know who this Helen Maria is?

Sterling111 profile image

Sterling111 2 days ago

I found this from another site. Sorry, I have to paste it but here it is.

Helen Maria confirmed the Special Representative of the World Bank, "The strategic relationship with Iraq will be extended from 2012 until the year 2016." Indicating that "this strategy is not only in Iraq but in several countries."

Said Helen during her visit to Muthanna province today, "There are agreements and negotiations with the central government to identify the joints and the details of this strategy." Noting that "the World Bank will consider the special nature of this country in order to identify important points about this strategy." Afterthought, "but in general."

She added that "this strategy will emphasize topics the development of macro-economic growth and development as well as issues relating to capacity-building and transparency and the fight against corruption and other ways to promote a strong economy for this country." Noting that "the Bank is trying to help create an environment that provides job opportunities and eliminate unemployment and a focus on the youth. "noting that" many young people are eligible to enter the Iraqi market. "

Revealed Helen that "there is a plan to restructure the Rafidain and Rasheed to contribute to the creation of financial and banking sector better in Iraq contributes to the promotion of investment and provide an ideal environment." Afterthought "should there be a banking sector active in Iraq, but we Ntanaj to cooperation by the party return. "

On the issue of deletion of zeros from the currency "I think that this may have been in Turkey and will not have any effect, either positive or negative.", Adding: "But if what has been implemented correctly and I mean here properly is to keep the same purchasing power of the currency after deletion of zeros if there was a thousand dinars, and after deletion of zeros has become a must for this dinars dinar to have the same purchasing power of one thousand dinars. VIGILANTE 2 days ago

Aviator.... Not that I condone you going out to get some dinars... I for one see it as a glass half poisoned.

But after you do your research, you are still interested in buying, well then... I would be interested in selling.

I feel like I have too many Dinars.

Shop around. Check out the on-line retailers in the U.S. Check out Ebay.... then whe you have your best quote... one that I can verify over the internet... I'll beat it by 5% and will not charge you shipping or handling.

I would photograph the bills & email them before sending them to you. So, you would know what you are getting... Give you a fourteen day return if you change your mind.

These bills are uncircullated bought back in 2004. When you get them immideately by the detail you will know they are authentic.

Please note that this site would not be affiliated in any way with this transaction.

Like I said... with a concious mind I don't encourage investing in Dinars... but if you are going to do it anyway... I would sell them to you. I would just be breaking even. I'm ready to downsize.

..............THIS COMMENT TO AVIATOR GOES OUT ..........

................TO EVERYONE HERE ON THE HUB............

I can be reached at peppon7@yahoo

{aside} Jim... I try to come on strong... with my verbage I mean.... but its an overt posture trying to compensate for my weaknesses.

Teardrop under the eye.... hummm....

Did you bump-off some guru in dinarland???

You don't have to answer that.

where is the best place to buy dinar? i just came across this phenomenon, and am finding a hard time trusting some of the websites vendors.

Sam I Am 2 days ago

Sterling - I have sold most of my dinar but I haven't sold it all yet. I'll probably hang on to some just for the hell of it. As for Breitling's document, just substitue redenomination (lop) for currency reform because that's what they're talking about.

Sterling111 profile image

Sterling111 2 days ago

Very very interesting.

Breitling posted this on his site. It's a SIGIR ( special inspector general for Iraq reconstruction) quarterly report to congress. He has a very interesting point here.

Sam I Am 3 days ago

Sterling111 - They're not fully transparent as far as their budget is concerned but they can't just make up bogus numbers for their financial reports. All I can go by is the figures on the CBI website which I already cited. Don't bother telling Breitling about that because he'll just tell you they're lying. It's circular logic.

Breitling is of the belief that they've been pulling in the larger notes for 2 years now. Seems odd to me that the money supply would be growing if that were the case. Besides, I talk to people in Iraq. The larger notes are still being used everywhere. The idea that they've pulled in 70% of the larger notes surfaced in 2010 when there was a report from the CBI that they had reduced excess liquidity by 70%. The gurus took that to mean that they had reduced the money supply but the financials clearly contradict that. Rather than jump to conclusions they would have been better off to simply look up the definition of "excess liquidity". It has nothing to do with removing notes from circulation. It has more to do with controlling inflation by managing the money supply. Breitling insists that the CBI has been telling us that they're reducing the money supply when they have said no such thing. They only mention reducing the money supply upon redenomination when they introduce the new currency and demonetize the IQD. That will take the money supply from 30 trillion dinar to 30 billion. Like I said, B doesn't know what he's talking about.

Sterling111 profile image

Sterling111 3 days ago

Sam I Am. Are all the books open right now? Are all the facts out there? Or is what Breitling is saying, about being internationally recognized and not having to disclose everything baseless.

Sterling111 profile image

Sterling111 3 days ago

Breitling's theory is sound if in fact they are pulling in the money supply. If they're not,, then ya, I understand where your coming from. Do you have any evidence that states where they're at currently. If you do I'll forward it to Breitling and see what he says.

Sam I Am 3 days ago

The problem with Breitling's analysis on Iraq's money supply is that they're not reducing it. Quite the opposite according to CBI reports. The M1 is at 30 trillion IQD and M2 is approaching 70 trillion. Iraq's reference to reducing the money supply doesn't mean pulling the larger notes out of circulation. That's pumper BS. It means reducing it from 30 trillion to 30 billion when they redenominate. In order to believe Breitling's theory you have to conclude that the CBI is lying to us. I think a simpler explanation is that Breitling doesn't know what he's talking about.

Breitling, Kaperoni, Enorrste, Randy Koonce ... all these guys insist that deleting three zeros means pulling in the notes with three zeros but historically that expression has meant redenomination or lop. Just type redenomination in Wikipedia and read up on it. It's not rocket science.

I'm here CKNuggett... always watching..... on the downlow... below the radar... with my 22 caliber... ready to shoot any Guru who decides to show his voice his outlandish remarks....

Notice I choose a 22. Don't really want to put him out.

Just hurt the Guru... wanna hear some whinning. Crying.

And when he/she is on the floor... we'll brand him with the JC hubpages logo on the forehead.

I tried to join the hub Jim... but it was so hard to get past the "word" clue that I gave up after the 3rd time.

Of course, I can't imagine anyone trying to use my "good name" in efforts to disparage/disgrace my character that I've worked so hard to build here at the hub.

Platypusdown, he registered for a HubPages account, presumably so people can't come in here an impersonate him. Wouldn't that be a downer if someone came in here posing as him, a VERY trusted, respected, and loyal forum member, and spewed misinformation? I can only assume that it's actually him, though, as he checks this forum regularly, and would have cried fowl by now ("fowl" is used deliberately as opposed to "foul" to give a nod to the crow I promised to eat if this RV goes through the way we all want it to--again, sorry for ending in a preposition). His reference to Suitcase Chili kindof sealed the deal for me as far as identity verification.

Not sure I'm completely onboard with his choice of avatar, however. Maybe a reference to Piggly Wiggly? As far as choosing the three 1s? Not sure. I'm assuming other people took the previous 110 'Sterling' monikers? Only Sterling knows the answers to these questions, and many more, but refuses to divulge his sources out of respect for the individuals he has sworn to protect and serve.

Finance Commitee: Printing of currency begins in Sept 2012, Currency issued in January 2013

Revealed the parliamentary finance committee on Tuesday that the deletion of zeros and replacing Iraqi currency Seetman early January 2013, as pointed out it will start printing the new currency in various categories in September.

PoorDawn, welcome to the forum! I'd write more, but there's quite a dearth of news out there. There is more focus, right now, on the Eurozone issues. This whole thing is not going well at all, from my perspective. Not meaning to be an alarmist or conspiracy theorist, but mark my words, Europe is volatile; I'm hoping it doesn't devolve into a historical repitition of events. The chaos in the middle-east is nothing compared to what Europe is capable of. (Damn sentence ending in a preposition!)

Platypusdown, sorry bud. It's not funny to most of us because we've grown weary of the guru's statements (for the exact reason you point out), but trust me when I say we're all laughing on the inside--deep, deep, DEEP down on the inside, while disabusing a globule from our tear ducts that descends ever so slowly into our collective steins. Well I can see the some of you have had a relapse of hopium. Just remember this. In January the rate moved from 1170:1 to 1166:1. In the weeks leading up to that change how many gurus with their boots on the ground and top level contacts went on record saying that the rate would move 4 pips? ZERO! None of them know anything folks. You're much better off just going by accepted principles of economics. Currencies don't jump 100,000% at the flip of a switch. The IQD will not make anybody rich, and in all likelihood won't even revalue high enough to produce a profit for most dinar investors.

@master mason, It would be nice if that were true. However you are sounding a lot like a guru. I don't think it will happen this week. Would love it too but I am not holding my breath.

Well we should have seen this today. But. Friday will do. We should know by 3pm

Thank you Sterling! My inability to remember that was starting to bug me.

Andrew, even with all the clues I still can't figure out who and where you are talking about.

Master Mason, so tomorrow is still a go?

Andrew 9 days ago

if big big G and big P were sit working together Shabbi would have pushed the button a long time ago, but as the old saying goes good things do come to an end...

Andrew, I have thought it over long and hard, and I can't figure out who P would be and assuming your in the US, where G would be located.

Maybe tomorrow will come, the dinar will be here and the P&G will all make sense...... A much more likely scenario is I'll wake up tomorrow and go to work as usual and the dinar will still be happening "tomorrow"

And I agree, where is Fleetfoxes? he said he worked for one of the big boy banks, although I can't recall which one.

Andrew, I still cannot fathom who you are talking about. My first thought was Big G was George W. Bush but started to doubt it. Big P is a total mystery. Please enlighten us.

Julie and Sterling, the visuals you are invoking are gross but comical too. Are ya'll in cahoots with Vig or something? Albeit, Vig is more obnoxious. LOL

Oh, Go Stars!

Andrew 10 days ago

some more breaking news, guru Johnny just said RV soon, cashing in Thursday and Friday, he got that from 2 top class annalists whoever they are, im sure he dont know P and G...

Hopefully i am wrong and Johnny is right....

Julie, plypuss, mason, fleetfoxes, sterling and myself, lets get the dinars put from under the bed...

Andrew 10 days ago

nothing to report, rv coming, guru say friday, i think its truly coming but maybe by boat,,,maybe 7 mts to get her, hope im wrong,,,i have to go with big P and big G, anyone figure out what these 2 high powered weapons are????

Sterling 10 days ago

The article that Andrew posted in my opinion is a good thing. Maybe not for the timeline but for the people of Iraq. Evil needs to be rooted out in order for things to run smoother.

Sterling 10 days ago

Hey I still pee in pools.

master mason 32 10 days ago

I have seen the news i think we are still going to see it this week hold on nothing i have seen yet to hold things up .the people who have held things up are out of the way for sure now.

Julie 10 days ago

I like hockey more than any other sport but I prefer to attend the games actually. Rv = attending. I prefer the fights myself... I am from the darkened Stanley Cup team that was slighted with the "NO GOAL"... any guesses?

Where's Fleefoxes that said he worked at a bank... havnt heard and thing from him in a while.

Hasnt anyone ever swam in a pool and wondered how many kids have peed in it?? Walked through a warm spot...You need to wash that crudd off!

I agree as well. If this article is true. I don't see good things either. Master mason you still have your gut feeling this week?

And I just found the article that Andrew posted also on CNN.com. I agree that it probably doesn't aid the RV at all, only adds to the turmoil.

Bthatgirl I wish I had the cool accent that comes from living in Australia, but alas, I have a very slight southern drawl bordering on a non regional diction.

Sterling, I kind of wish I really loved Hockey. We have the Pred's here in middle TN now, and I guess they aren't too bad. Plus hockey seems to be the only sport outside of the UFC where fights are allowed and the referees actually let the players do it.

Sterling 11 days ago

Fracus and bloodshed is right! Dallas use to be a strong contender, who knows maybe they'll find it again someday. I now have two hockey buddies!!

Sterling, hubby and I love hockey, esp. when the Dallas Stars win, which has not been lately. Alas, we are fair weather fans. Is it bad to say that it ain't good hockey unless there's some sort of fracas and bloodshed? LOL BTW, if I didn't know better, I would've thought you were Andrew. Your post smacked of libations abounding.

Good one Elizabeth. Totally understand where ya'll are coming from, Frances and Julie (pee? that's funny!).

Master M, I've ceased being on tender hook over the RV for a couple of months now. Dubious this week will be any different than last week.

Platypus, I thought you were from Australia.

Andrew, not sure the validity of that article, but such unrest in Iraq cannot bode well for our investment. I'm being a bit selfish huh? We actually need to pray for the folks over there.

Sterling 11 days ago

Oops, double posted.

Community pee hahaha

Sterling 11 days ago

Julie! Your now my hockey buddy! Community pee lol

Sterling 11 days ago

Platypusdown. Lol What!?! And I pegged you as a hockey fan. Haha I think I pegged everyone as hockey fans last night.

Frances. I'm tired of being tired.Things are still happening though. Keep your chin up!

If this darn RV would happen I would probably enjoy more hockey, drink more beer and whine a lot less...

Thanks Elizabeth, but I have not found anything new. I have taken a step back for a bit. Its like diving for pennies in the town pool. Sometimes you need to come up for air, wash the community pee (guru talk) off, get a clear head and dive back in. I do check back here usually at least once a day. If I find anything worth sharing, I will. :-)

some breaking news here, can anyone confirm if this is good or bad for us, this just came out mins ago

Istanbul (CNN) -- Interpol has issued a "red notice" for Iraqi Vice President Tariq al-Hashimi, who is suspected of guiding and financing terrorist attacks in the country, the international police organization announced Tuesday.

The red notice for al-Hashimi "represents a regional (and) international alert to all of Interpol's 190 member countries to seek their help in locating and arresting him, following the issue of a national arrest warrant by Iraq's Judicial Investigative Authority as part of an investigation in which security forces seized bombing materials and arrested individuals," Interpol said in a statement.

Al-Hashimi has been living in a Turkish government guest house in Istanbul. In recent months, he has lived in Iraq's semi-autonomous Kurdistan region, but has also traveled to Saudi Arabia and Qatar at the invitation of those governments.

Iraq's Shiite, Sunni and Kurdish political leaders have squared off over the December arrest warrant for al-Hashimi, Iraq's top Sunni political figure. In a January interview with CNN, al-Hashimi accused Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki -- a Shiite -- of pushing the country toward a deep sectarian divide.

In February, Iraq's top judicial committee accused al-Hashimi's security detail of carrying out 150 attacks against security forces and civilians between 2005 and 2011. Al-Hashimi said the nine-judge council was under the control of the Shiite-dominated central government and has denied the charges, calling them "politically motivated."

Charges against al-Hashimi appear to be based on the purported confessions of three men, identified as the vice president's security guards. Iraqi state television aired video of the confessions in December, but CNN has not been able to verify the men's identities independently.

A red notice is not an international arrest warrant, but many Interpol member countries consider the alert to be a valid request for provisional arrest, the agency said. Interpol cannot demand that any member country arrest the subject of a red notice. The police organization has been criticized in the past for allowing some nations to use such notices to target political opponents.

As an official guest of the Turkish government, al-Hashimi has been granted a meeting with Turkey's prime minister. In recent months, Recep Tayyip Erdogan has engaged in a war of words with al-Maliki.

Officials from the Turkish government were not immediately available for comment on whether or not Turkey would comply with the red notice.

Reached by telephone Tuesday, one of al-Hashimi's aides in Istanbul downplayed the threat from Interpol.

"This Interpol decision has no value," Mehmet Bulovali told CNN. "This is a warning, not an arrest warrant."

At a press conference in Istanbul on Friday, al-Hashimi argued he had been denied the right to defend himself fairly in court. He also claimed he still held the post of Iraqi vice president.

"Some of the media call Mr. Hashimi as fugitive. I am not," he said, adding, "I'm still in my position as a vice president."

CNN's Mohammed Tawfeeq, Mohammed Jamjoom, Saad Abedine, Ivan Watson and Yesim Comert contributed to this report.

Sterling, unfortunately I'm way too far south to be into hockey. It's starting to grow down here in TN but I've never been a fan. sorry...

Andrew, I'm trying to figure out what Peyton Manning being in Gatlinburg has to do with the dinar?

and Master Mason, I truly hope you are correct, however the realist in me says that it definitely will not happen this week, or next week for that matter...

Andrew 11 days ago

master mason 32 11 days ago

I just keep an eye on goverment i have some one on the ground in iraq .No one gave this info i just see countries , corporations ,who need this to happen. I still maintaine this will happen this week.

Frances 11 days ago

Sterling you asked how everyone is feeling: TIRED OF WAITING!!! I do check for news articles, guru news postings, etc. for tidbits of info. While many post their own false speculations at least I learn of some happenings that make me feel this process is progressing. For that I continue to have hope. So that is how I'm feeling: "anxiously waiting" and "passively hopeful". I would be happily retired if I can get a dollar cash in but my kids would be happier if it's more then an inheritance and large gift now is possible.
